Material sourcing guide

Valves and meters for mechanical and plumbing packages

Organize valves and meters as distinct supply items, not a single loose group. Separate isolation, control, metering and commissioning items by system so every connection and required document is visible in the request.

01 / Materials & uses

Start with the right material groups.

Isolation and control valves

Describe each valve by project reference, nominal size, connection type and the service it isolates. Keep actuated and manual control items in separate lines.

Metering and measuring devices

List water, energy or flow meters with the metered medium, connection size and required output. Identify pulse, communication and display accessories with each meter.

Accessories and connection kits

Include flanges, gaskets, bolting, strainers, tapping saddles and companion connections. Show which accessory set belongs to which valve or meter line.

02 / Package boundaries

A material price is only part of the package.

Your material schedule
01Isolation and control valves
02Metering and measuring devices
03Accessories and connection kits

One schedule, clearly separated scopes. This is a request outline, not an installation drawing.

Included materials

Identify valves, actuation sets, meters and connection accessories in separate schedule groups with measurable units for each line.

Connections & interfaces

List interfaces such as flanges, unions, instrument ports and adjacent pipe materials. State which package supplies each shared connection component.

Confirm separately

Confirm commissioning, calibration, installation, insulation and unloading as separate responsibilities; a material offer does not automatically include them.

03 / A comparable request

Six details that make offers clearer.

Product designation and project requirement
Enter the exact valve or meter designation and the project-prescribed pressure class, flow range, size or output. Do not describe only the photo.
System and service
Name the system, medium and location so isolation and metering devices are not substituted across incompatible services.
Connection and orientation
Record connection type, nominal diameter and required installation orientation. Attach the drawing reference for each connection point.
Operating conditions
Copy the approved pressure and temperature values from the project schedule. For valves, state the specified isolation or modulating function and required control behaviour.
Actuation and meter output
For actuated valves, identify the required actuator type and control interface. For meters, identify display, pulse or communication output needs.
Documents and commissioning scope
Request product sheets, declared deviations and calibration or pressure test records. Confirm which commissioning activities are included in supply.
Illustrative request lines
Item & descriptionQuantity
V-01Isolation valve assemblies for chilled water zone A; connection and pressure class per project valve schedule.18 sets
V-02Cold water meters with pulse output for apartment riser installation; accessories listed as separate meter sets.32 sets

Example quantities only; no live prices or supplier offers. Use your project schedule for final values and ask suppliers to list deviations.

04 / Compare the whole offer

Three checks before you decide.

Valve body versus connected set

Check whether flanges, gaskets, bolts and companion connections are included before comparing totals across offers.

Meter readout and interface kit

Compare meter display, plate, pulse cable and communication module separately. Ask suppliers to map included interfaces by schedule code.

Calibration and commissioning scope

Confirm whether pressure testing, meter configuration and third-party calibration are supply items or site services handled by others.

05 / Practical questions

Details worth clarifying early.

How should meter accessories be grouped in the request?

Group each meter with its required plate, output module and connecting kit as a defined set. Keep optional communication modules on a separate line so offers stay comparable.

Should isolation valves and metering devices use the same schedule?

They can share one request when organized in separate groups by service and unit. Otherwise suppliers struggle to identify whether a set covers isolation only or full metering.
