Aluminium & PVC profiles for openings
Use this guide when aluminium and PVC profiles are bought separately from complete windows and doors. Record the approved profile series, cut-length or bar basis, finish reference and which accessories belong to the profile package.
Start with the right material groups.
Aluminium profile sections
Identify the approved manufacturer series, thermal break configuration, profile wall type and finish reference for frame, leaf and transom sections.
PVC profile sections
List chamber configuration, reinforcement requirement, colour reference and whether outer frame, sash, mullion or supplementary sections are needed.
Profile accessories and connectors
Separate gaskets, drainage covers, joint cleats, corner brackets, screws and assembly consumables from the profile lot itself.
A material price is only part of the package.
One schedule, clearly separated scopes. This is a request outline, not an installation drawing.
Included materials
Confirm whether the profile lot covers full bars, cut-to-length pieces or machined profiles for named opening types.
Connections & interfaces
Allocate gaskets, beads, reinforcing inserts, connectors, screws and transport protection between profile and assembly packages.
Confirm separately
Confirm separately who machines, assembles and finishes the profiles, and who handles site measurement and installation.
Six details that make offers clearer.
- Product designation and series
- Give the exact approved product family, profile series reference and the project-prescribed depth or performance requirement.
- Cut-length or bar basis
- State the procurement basis and record stock lengths, cut lengths or machined references against each profile code.
- Finish and colour
- Name the finish reference, colour sample and face exposure requirement for anodised or coated profiles.
- Reinforcement and inserts
- Define steel reinforcement codes, thermal strips, glazing beads and connector parts supplied with each profile family.
- Tolerances and delivery form
- Ask how straightness, bow, twist and surface condition are accepted and how bundled bars are labelled.
- Supporting documentation
- Request the product data sheet, coating declaration and order-specific confirmation without importing unapproved references.

Example quantities only; no live prices or supplier offers. Use your project schedule for final values and ask suppliers to list deviations.
Three checks before you decide.
Profile series alignment
Compare every offered code with the approved product designation, including visible and hidden sections.
Length and machining basis
Check whether quantities reflect bars, cut lengths or machined pieces before converting totals.
Accessory scope
Verify which gaskets, beads, reinforcing inserts and connectors are included and which remain with the window assembler.
Details worth clarifying early.
How should a profile-only RFQ list lengths?
Separate stock bars, cut-to-length sections and machined pieces. A bar-metre total does not show processing scrap or which code is ready for assembly.
Do profile prices include gaskets and reinforcement?
Do not assume they do. Ask the seller to itemise gaskets, beads, steel reinforcement and assembly connectors included with the profile lot.
