Material sourcing guide

Cement and fibre cement boards

Request cement and fibre cement boards as a defined material package linked to project locations. Separate board type, thickness, format, density class and facing from wet-area, external or fire-rated assembly requirements set by the approved detail.

01 / Materials & uses

Start with the right material groups.

Interior board packages

Identify boards for wall linings, shaft walls, wet areas and backing zones by room schedule. State the required board face and substrate position from the assembly.

External sheathing and cladding boards

For envelopes and soffits, list boards by elevation, orientation and fixing zone. Clarify whether the package includes joint accessories and fastener specification separately.

Tile backing and wet-area boards

Separate boards intended to receive tile or liquid-applied finishes from general lining boards. Confirm the specified board face and accessory requirements for those locations.

02 / Package boundaries

A material price is only part of the package.

One schedule, clearly separated scopes. This is a request outline, not an installation drawing.

Included materials

Cement and fibre cement boards supplied to project-designated areas as board product packages only.

Connections & interfaces

Board formats, facings, thicknesses, densities and required cut sizes for the referenced assembly locations.

Confirm separately

Jointing, framing, substrate preparation, installation access and sealant work confirmed with the procurement package boundaries, not assumed included.

03 / A comparable request

Six details that make offers clearer.

Product designation
State the exact board name, material composition, thickness, format and any project-prescribed density or surface requirement.
Assembly location
Reference room, elevation or zone codes so each board type is matched to a defined installed condition.
Facing and edge profile
Ask whether the offer includes square, recessed or other edge geometry, and which facing is specified for finishing.
Board and assembly requirements
List the moisture and exposure requirements for the board and any wind-load or fire-performance requirements for the complete assembly from the approved project specification.
Joint and fixing package
Clarify whether reinforcing mesh, jointing compound, fasteners and corner accessories are within the board package scope.
Cut sizes and board utilization
Request supplied dimensions, cut-size plan and anticipated waste separately from the net board area.

Example quantities only; no live prices or supplier offers. Use your project schedule for final values and ask suppliers to list deviations.

04 / Compare the whole offer

Three checks before you decide.

Board type and location match

Verify that each referenced location receives the board type defined in its assembly, including exposure classification.

Accessory scope

Compare mesh, compound, fastener and corner accessory needs against the net board area and cut plan.

Package boundary

Confirm whether substrate, framing and sealing are supplied by others or included in the same package before release.

05 / Practical questions

Details worth clarifying early.

Should I request cement board only for wet areas?

Procure by project location. A wall schedule may require cement-based boards also for shafts, external soffits or fire-designated linings, so list every reference from the detail set.

How are reinforcing and jointing accessories enumerated?

Give joint lengths, corner positions and fastener layout in the same takeoff as board quantity. Ask suppliers to state net board area and accessory items separately.
