Concrete pavers and kerbs for external hardscape
Use this guide to request concrete paving blocks, flags and kerb units as a measurable hardscape package. Keep paving formats, kerb profiles and laying-course materials separate so suppliers can price the specified scope clearly.
Start with the right material groups.
Paving units
Define concrete block or flag pavers by product name, face format, thickness, edge detail, finish and laying pattern. Give the net area to be paved and any required cutting allowance.
Kerb units and transitions
List kerb profiles, radius units, transition pieces and drop kerbs by location. Separate straight runs from curves, junctions, vehicle crossings and drainage-edge details.
Laying course and jointing scope
Identify whether bedding sand, jointing sand and sub-base materials are requested with the pavers, or supplied under a different package. State the package boundary clearly.

Six details that make offers clearer.
- Product designation
- State the exact paver or kerb product name and the project-prescribed performance, face size, thickness or profile requirement.
- Format and profile
- Give paver face dimensions and thickness, or kerb cross-section and length. Identify chamfer, texture, nib or straight-face options.
- Finish and colour
- Describe the required surface finish and colour reference against the specified range. Request a sample or technical data sheet where comparison is needed.
- Measured quantity and unit
- State net paving area and linear kerb length separately. Show cutting, waste and spare-unit allowances as distinct quantities.
- Laying pattern and joints
- Identify the laying bond or pattern and joint width requirement. Confirm whether jointing material is quoted with the units or separately.
- Site conditions and delivery
- Name the installation area and required delivery timing. Detail lorry access, unloading point and temporary storage responsibility for the units.

Paving against kerb scope
Check whether kerb bedding, backing concrete, radius units and junction pieces are quoted inside the paver area or as a separate linear item.
Product equivalence
Compare format, thickness, finish, edge profile and colour with the specification, together with documented project performance requirements. Submit differences for project review before treating an alternative as equivalent.
Delivery and handling limits
Confirm whether transport, offloading and positioning are supplier or buyer scope, and agree who manages protection and storage on site.

Should paving and kerbs be requested in the same package?
They can be grouped together, but keep paving measured by area and kerbs by linear length. Separate them in the request so each supplier uses the same take-off basis.
Are laying course and jointing materials part of the paver request?
Include them explicitly in the enquiry when required. Show bedding, sub-base and jointing quantities separately and ask the supplier to state what the offer includes.
