Start with the right material groups.
Monolithic and laminated panes
Ask for thickness, tint, interlayer and intended location. Keep each pane referenced to the opening schedule instead of ordering by area alone.
Insulating glass units
Describe the unit makeup, cavity configuration and edge seal expectation. Confirm who supplies warm-edge components and desiccant-filled spacer details.
Processed and shaped glass
List cutouts, holes, notches, polished edges and curved or fritted panes with a marked drawing reference. Avoid pricing these as standard rectangular stock.

Included materials
State the supplied panes, including makeup, nominal thickness, dimensions, edge treatment and any fabrication required per opening or elevation.

Confirm separately
Confirm separately whether site measurement, cutting from templates, handling, protection, site glazing or replacement of site-broken panes is included in the offered package.

- Product designation and project requirement
- Name the exact glass product or makeup and the project-prescribed performance, thickness or size reference for each pane type.
- Opening or elevation reference
- Attach the glass schedule and keep pane IDs linked to the same opening references used across joinery and facade packages.
- Pane dimensions and tolerance
- Ask for width, height and thickness basis, including edge clearance or site-measured dimension procedure where relevant.
- Makeup and interlayer
- Request the full build-up from outer surface to inner surface, including any laminate interlayer, coating or frit layer.
- Edge work and holes
- Describe edge finish, arris, cutouts, notches and drilling with a marked drawing so edge quality is part of the offer.
- Packaging and handling
- State crating, separation, labeling and site handling requirements for oversize or fragile panes in a deliverable RFQ.

Should glass be priced per pane or per square meter?
Use the unit that matches the schedule, but ask suppliers to show both the pane count and measured area. Oversize or low-yield cutting can change usable area assumptions.
How should I describe a complete insulating glass unit?
State that you need a complete sealed unit. Specify the glass build-up, spacer and edge seal, with any project-required gas fill. Keep site glazing and surrounding frame seals as separate scope.
